Emailed Tyler
As I mentioned in my previous post, we need to figure out the best way to gather link characteristics from endpoints. Since I thought ICMP packets would be the best way to do this and would let endpoints initiate traces by themselves, I emailed Tyler Johnson and asked if the NCNI routers would handle ICMP packets differently from UDP packets. Hopefully the answer will be no. I also asked him what sort of systems clients will be using, since our link probing software will have to run on those systems. Once he gets back to me on that I will be able to start writing up a new tool or choosing an existing tool to do this probing.
