An interior view of the bottom platform. The frame is complete and part of the plywood has been attached. The frame is constructed of 2x6's and the plywood is 1/2". All wood is screwed together for easier deconstruction later.

The top platform interior with all support studs in place. The frame only contained a few support studs when it was moved into place over the bottom platform, so it would be easier to move. The additional studs were added after it was in place. The studs are approximately 16" apart, except for the one at the end which is set to support the edge of two plywood pieces where they come together.

The carpet padding is attached, carpet is ready to go on. The padding was stapled onto the platform, and the carpet is what was in the dining room before we put down hardwood flooring.

Interior view of one of the steps. Each step is half the height of the riser and constructed in the same manner. The cavity will be filled with sand.

Both steps filled with general-purpose sand. Each step has about 30 pounds of sand in it. This will help keep the steps from moving around when touched, or from resonating to the audio.

The compelted step frame. The 1/2" plywood has been screwed to the top, and the 1/2" semi-circle lip has been nailed to protect shins and feet.

The completed riser with rope lighting attached. The rope lighting was purchased from Home Depot in a 24' length (not Christmas rope lighting) and attached with clips and #4 x 3/4" screws. It is routed under the front row carpet with a wire protector strip, and plugged into a portable dimmer set at half value.
